Een klei kopje koffie
Concept, Creation, Material research
'Een klei kopje koffie' is the journey of two coffee enthusiasts making their perfect cup of coffee. But what comes first the coffee or the cup? Our answer, the cup! We excavated clay in various places in the Netherlands to make our own slip clay recipe from scratch. The cups you see are fresh out of the oven, from clay excavated in the Biesbosch.

Material research
Compared to industrial clay, our clay has a natural pink colour. This natural colour is a result of the other raw materials and contaminations in the clay. These added contaminations give our cups somewhat of a local identity as these materials will differ depending on where the clay has been excavated.
Currently we are perfecting the pouringclay recipe and experimenting with clay excavated in Rotterdam. If you are interested in our proces, have a look through some of the process photos.
Digging and sorting excavated clay
Drying and cleaning organic contamiations
Siving and refining the clay
Step by step refined clay
Combining clay with minerals such as chalk
Pouring, firing and end result
